Killing Floor is the ultimate door welding simulator, in which you and your friends try as hard as you can to weld each other outside of buildings to kill them.
Killing Floor is a Co-Op survival horror game done right. I’ll let you drool over that sentence for a bit and then I’ll continue… Done yet? No? Ok… How about now? Excellent. Killing Floor is brought to you by Tripwire Interactive, who’ve done a fantastic job at getting everything right in this Co-Op fps horror game. Killing Floor sees you fighting off waves of specimens in London. The story of the game is that a biotech company accidently screw up with one of their experiments, the specimens then overwhelm their internal security forces and break out on to the surface, a story fit for an apocalyptic horror game if ever I saw one. The game sees you as part of one of the ragtag teams put together in order to try and prevent the world from being turned in to an all you can eat buffet.
So far the game sounds like every other horror game attempt so far, so where does this one become different? Between waves you have a trader you can visit to restock on ammo and upgrade your weapons. But the real fun in the game comes in the forms of the welding system and perk system. The welding system allows you to weld doors shut, essentially creating bottlenecks or trying to make an area slightly safer for you to have a stand-off, specimens can break down the doors you’ve welded though, so safety isn’t forever. The game also features 7 perks or classes to choose from, each with their own advantages and play style, each class can also level up and become stronger once certain class specific requirements are met with it. This two aspects, combined with the level options available to you means the game has replayability, with you trying to level your favourite class and having multiple levels to do it across. Each level though is also not just a case of find the perfect safe spot and stay there indefinitely.
The trader moves around the level between waves, opening up shop in different locations every time, this means you might get caught exposed when the next wave comes, or you could get lost inside one of the maze like buildings on a level, separated from the rest of your team, left to fend for yourself and trying not to die.
Killing Floor even has a boss waiting for you on the last wave of the map… If you get that far.
